Your Apolosign Digital Calendar supports the Google voice assistant (Gemini) in Android mode. This page covers the initial setup and the most common voice-assistant questions.
1. Initial setup
- Switch your device to Android Mode (Menu > Settings > Section > Mode Switch).
- Set your assistant preferences: go to Settings > Apps > Assistant.
- Enable microphone access: go to Settings > Security & privacy > Privacy Controls > Microphone, and make sure microphone access is enabled.
2. Setup shows an error like "Something went wrong"
Update the Google Play Store first, then try the voice setup again:
- Open the Play Store and tap your profile avatar in the top-right corner.
- Go to My apps & games > Manage apps & devices and install the updates.
- After updating, record the four voice phrases when prompted. Once recording is complete, "Hey Google" wake-up will work.
3. Play music with voice commands (Spotify)
To let voice commands control Spotify, authorize the connection once:
- Open Gemini.
- Tap the gear icon in the bottom-left corner to enter Settings.
- Tap Personal intelligence > Connected apps.
- Find Spotify and authorize the connection.
Then try: "Hey Google, play [song/artist] on Spotify".
4. Wake Gemini by voice when the screen is locked
- Screen off (black / sleep mode): direct voice wake-up is not supported — press the power button to light up the screen first.
- Lock screen / screensaver (screen lit up): you can wake Gemini by voice without manually unlocking the device.
To enable this, in Android mode:
- Open Settings and search for Gemini settings.
- Tap Gemini on lock screen.
- Enable Use Gemini without unlocking.
Note: the "Hey Google" / Voice Match wake-up feature must also be turned on for this to work.
5. Turn off "Hey Google" listening
- Go to Settings.
- Select Google > All services.
- Select Search, Assistance & voice, then tap Gemini.
- Find Talk to Gemini hands-free and turn off Hey Google.
6. Turn off Voice Match
Open Manage your Google account > Data & privacy > Voice Match and turn it off.
7. Add items to a shopping list by voice
Adding items to the Apolosign calendar shopping list by voice is not supported, because the device uses Google's voice assistant rather than a native one.
Voice commands can add items to a Google Calendar shopping list instead — this requires Gemini, and Google Workspace smart features must be authorized:
On a computer, open Google Calendar on the web > Settings > General > Google Workspace smart features > Manage Workspace smart features settings, and enable both smart features.
If your voice assistant still does not respond after the steps above, contact us at support@apolosign.com with your device model and what happens on the screen.
